Alternative green solvents for CO2 capture:
experimental study and modelling with advanced equations of state






OBJECTIVES

The project focuses on developing a tool for the selection of the best candidate(s) as physical solvent for CO2 capture.





A complex study involving computational modern methods (Molecular dynamics, COSMO-RS, SAFT, advanced equations of state) and difficult experiments is undergoing in order to achieve our purpose.




Specifically, the phase behaviour (and thermophysical properties) of selected hydrocarbons and functional groups substances are being investigated to assess their capability as solvents/cosolvents for CO2 capture.




The functional group effect on the solvent ability to dissolve CO2 is also explored. The capability of these solvents will be compared with an alternative solvents for CO2 : ionic liquids (ILs).
